"Back Yard 3" is acrylic on canvas, painted in 2020 during the height of the COVID pandemic. It is a simplified view of my back yard, seen through my window. I worked from home for much of the year during Michigan's shelter-in-place mandate, and spent many hours gazing longingly out my windows. I wanted to simplify the complex world outside into a flat, abstract composition of calming pastel colors, while alluding to the pandemic's isolation with the empty lawn chairs.

Bio
I am a designer and artist based in Ypsilanti, Michigan. I studied film at Lansing Community College and printmaking at Eastern Michigan University. I’m interested in the relationships between ecology, sociology, and digital spaces. I enjoy people watching and exploring both virtually and in the real world, witnessing the cycle of people affecting their environments and vice versa. My paintings occupy a liminal space between reality and abstraction, between familiar and surreal. I aim to create uncanny scenes with room for introspection, where the ordinary views of suburban living can be seen in a new way.
