"New Brunswick" is acrylic on canvas, painted in 2021. More and more shopping malls are closing in recent years, especially after the COVID pandemic. I try to appreciate malls aesthetically, both as unique architecture and as relics from a different time. The pinnacle of mall culture wasn't so many years ago, but social and cultural changes make them increasingly irrelevant. I hope the visually flat and simplified composition obscures the subject matter upon initial viewing.

Bio
I am a designer and artist based in Ypsilanti, Michigan. I studied film at Lansing Community College and printmaking at Eastern Michigan University. I’m interested in the relationships between ecology, sociology, and digital spaces. I enjoy people watching and exploring both virtually and in the real world, witnessing the cycle of people affecting their environments and vice versa. My paintings occupy a liminal space between reality and abstraction, between familiar and surreal. I aim to create uncanny scenes with room for introspection, where the ordinary views of suburban living can be seen in a new way.
